When the college football season starts, every team has a different set of goals. For some, the list includes an undefeated record and a national championship. For others, the boxes to be checked off are a little more modest. For every team, though, whether they’ll say it or not, making a bowl game is a major chip to be cashed in.
77 teams played well enough (“well” being defined as winning at least six games) to continue their season in one of the 35 bowls, and three others could reach that plateau this weekend. If you did the math already, 35 games equals 70 bowl teams. So for a few unlucky teams, the season ends here, just like the nearly 50 squads who didn’t make it to 6-6.
The complicated part now: figure out which 70 teams are in and where they’re headed. Let’s take a stab at it.
